What a fun photo shoot! As I was struggling for time, we began to apply Tiffany's Gnome beard outside the studio as we waited for our photographer, Aaron Chung to arrive. It all turned out well as beard applications are such a messy job, it meant we kept it all outside rather than creating fur balls around the clean studio we were shooting in.

I had prepared the beard in advance by steaming it straight, seperating it and combing, blending all of the hairs together, creating little piles ready for application. It was applied using spirit gum, a contact adhesive that is activated by tapping it. The piles of hair are then twisted, trimmed at an angle and pressed on the activated glue. This is done section by section until a huge beard and moustache are adhered to the face. I then comb through the beard pulling out all of the loose hairs until I achieve the thickness I desire. In this case, a Gnome is a character with quite an unrealistic beard. A real life beard would very rarely be this thick and long. I then use my comb and hair scissors to trim the beard to the desired length. To finish up, I use 99% alcohol and tweezers to pill away any stray hairs that don't look natural or fall in the wrong place. The same process was used for the application of the eye brows, using a white hair paint to colour Tiffany's dark eyebrows underneath, so that they cannot be seen through the white hairs I am applying.


After the beard, moustache and brows were applied I followed with a very basic makeup with exagerated, rouge cheeks. For a final touch, we painted a set of false lashes white and applied then using Duo.

Our look was now final and Stephanie was ready to get Tiffany dressed in the amazing costumes that she had made. Our character was ready to shoot and what amazing shots we got out of this!
